Here are 9 spots in Chongqing that I find myself going back to again and again! 🤩


1️⃣ 青椒鱼 Qingjiao Yu (Green Pepper Fish) (Huixing Branch) 🐟

This place in the 回兴 (Huixing) area has been serving up its signature green pepper black fish for over a decade, and OMG, it’s so fragrant and tender! 🤤 It’s so good that even the “hot pot racers” (a local nickname for fast-driving taxi drivers!) go there to eat!

2️⃣ 东东食店 Dongdong Shidian (Dongdong Restaurant) 🍜

This eatery has been dishing out incredible 鱼香肉丝面 (Yuxiang Rousi Mian, or Fish-Fragrant Shredded Pork Noodles) for over 20 years. The freshly stir-fried topping is just heavenly! 🔥 I personally think it’s way better than the more famous one on 临华路 (Linhua Road)!

3️⃣ 罗文丽火锅 Luo Wenli Hot Pot (Old Branch) 🥘

Tucked away in a residential building near 解放碑 (Jiefangbei), this is a little gem you’ll only find if a local shows you the way. It’s not an internet-famous spot, just authentic hot pot with a rich beef tallow broth. You have to try the 卤肥肠 (lǔ féicháng, braised pork intestines), 鸡爪 (jīzhuǎ, chicken feet), and 耙牛肉 (pá niúròu, super tender stewed beef). You can eat until you’re stuffed for about 60 RMB per person! 💸

4️⃣ 旺兴牛肉 Wangxing Niurou (Wangxing Beef) 🥩

This is a very old-school beef restaurant in the 双碑 (Shuangbei) area. You’ll definitely need a reservation to get a table! 📞 We ordered the medium pot for three people at 128 RMB and couldn’t even finish it all! The portions are huge!

5️⃣ 云南小锅米线 Yunnan Xiaoguo Mixian (Yunnan Small Pot Rice Noodles) 🌿

Craving authentic Yunnan-style rice noodles? This is the place! Get the classic 红豆酸菜米线 (hóngdòu suāncài mǐxiàn, red bean and pickled cabbage rice noodles) for just 13 RMB a bowl. ✨ Pro-tip: Ask for extra mint to make it even more fragrant!

6️⃣ 凤竹鸡杂干锅 Fengzhu Jiza Ganguo (Fengzhu Chicken Giblets Dry Pot) 🐔

This dry pot spot in 大竹林 (Dazhulin) has been around for 11 years! You absolutely MUST order an extra portion of beef to add in. 🐮 The radish that soaks up all the sauce is delicious, though a heads-up: the portion of chicken giblets can be a bit small!

7️⃣ 四通汤锅 Sitong Tangguo (Sitong Soup Pot) (Longshun Street Branch) 🍲

Located near the airport, this place specializes in a chicken giblet soup pot that’s mostly filled with 郡花 (jùnhuā, chicken gizzards skillfully cut to resemble flowers). It’s incredibly filling and a meal for three people will cost you less than 100 RMB! What a steal! 🤑

8️⃣ 14-3特色毛血旺毛豆腐 14-3 Specialty Maoxuewang & Maodoufu (Wuyi Road Branch) 🌶️

This spot in a residential building serves up 毛血旺 (Máoxuèwàng, a classic Chongqing dish of duck blood, tripe, and other goodies in a spicy broth). It honestly feels like you’re eating a home-cooked meal. ❤️ The portion is massive, and its numbing, spicy flavor is the perfect partner for a bowl of rice!

9️⃣ 新疆沙湾大盘鸡 Xinjiang Shawan Da Pan Ji (Xinjiang Shawan Big Plate Chicken) 🍗

Right next to the 沙坪坝七中 (Shapingba No. 7 Middle School), this restaurant has been serving amazing 大盘鸡 (dàpánjī, a hearty chicken and potato stew from Xinjiang) for over a decade. I’ve been eating here since I was a student, and it’s still just as delicious today! nostalgia!
