🗺️ Visit Tips:

  1. Special Exhibits: The palace occasionally hosts special exhibitions. Check if there’s one during your visit.
  2. “Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival”: A masterpiece of Chinese art, depicting the cityscape of the Northern Song capital, Bianjing (Kaifeng). This multimedia exhibit displays the entire long scroll dynamically on a huge screen, 128 meters long and 6.5 meters high, with day and night cycles every 4 minutes. The piece combines lights, sound, and motion with 12 large projectors, featuring 691 people during the day and 377 at night. It offers an immersive experience, like a dialogue between ancient and modern times. Note: The dark lighting might scare young children; recommended for kids over 4 years old. Engage them by asking what they see (e.g., camels, horses, rivers, people).
  3. Kid-Friendly: Features animations and comics like “Sanmao,” “Nezha Conquers the Dragon King,” “Carp Leaping Over the Dragon Gate,” “Calabash Brothers,” and “Black Cat Detective” which are popular with children.
  4. Photography: The palace’s architecture is stunning against a blue sky, perfect for photos. Suitable for traditional Hanfu and flowing white dresses.

  6. Expo Source Across the Street: A large complex with five areas offering food, entertainment, and shopping. Plan a full day to visit the Art Palace and enjoy the Expo Source, a great outing spot for families and relaxation.
  7. Recommended Dining Spot: Be sure to try the Suzhou-style noodle soup at Songhelou, located in the Expo Source. With over 200 years of history, this restaurant is a true gem of Jiangnan cuisine. The broth is clear and flavorful, and the noodles are perfectly soft and tender. The best part is the variety of toppings, known as “jiao tou,” which add a delicious touch to the dish.
